How is Overtime Pay Calculated?
Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), covered non-exempt employees must receive overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a workweek at a rate not less than one and one-half times (1.5x) their regular rate of pay.
What is Double Time?
Double time is paid at two times (2.0x) the standard hourly wage. While not federally mandated, double time is required in California for daily shifts exceeding 12 hours, or through union contracts for Sunday and holiday emergency shifts.
